Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese art of placement. Using Feng Shui is similar to designing your own luck with intention. It is in the intention of creating harmony and balance that designs this luck and remedies the environment to produce desired outcomes. By applying the art of Feng Shui in your home gym you are encouraging the flow of positive energy referred to as chi, to flow freely in the area. This produces physical and mental harmony and balance. Through several intentional environmental changes, you will bring this peace and harmony into your home gym and regular workouts.
The best location in the home for a gym is away from traffic noises. If possible, choose a room with windows natural light and fresh air to enter freely. This allows chi to enter and flow through the open spaces and around specifically placed objects in your home gym.
Fans should be utilized for cooling the gym space. Place fans at opposite sides of the room for increasing air and chi circulation. You may opt to place a fan near cardiovascular training machines for cooling during high intensity workouts if a window for natural air isn’t in the area.
Other appliances such as water coolers, stereos and televisions should be placed in a functional location but away from exercise machines and resistance training equipment in order to maintain the flow of positive chi. Appliances properly placed in locations where chi may stagnate is a good option, such are upper corners of the room or areas where there is little activity when the room is in use.
Avoid dark colors such as brown. Use soft yellow in chosen areas as it naturally encourages an uplifting feeling and lightens the room. Red is another smart selection. It attracts good luck and positive energy into the area. It also supports strength and activity. Green can be used abundantly with the use of plants either in different locations or as a green focal point. It is an inviting color and brings natural energy to your gym, inspiring health and growth. Shades of orange are also an option since orange stimulates the presence of chi in an area.
Equipment and Placement
Basic cardiovascular training equipment and resistance training equipment will provide a good start to your home gym. When purchasing gym equipment opt for pieces that have rounded edges to assist in breaking up sharp paths in your home gym, which disrupts the flow of chi.
A treadmill, exercise bike or other cardiovascular machines should be facing a window with a pleasant view, such as trees, if possible. Place floor mats in front of mirrors. Your resistance training equipment such as free weights, bars and benches, should be placed at midsection of a wall to avoid energy flow disruption.
If you have a universal weight machine, place it in a corner of the room to avoid creating sharp paths alongside the machine, which will occur if placed in the center.
Place resistance training machines in a square or rectangular shape to create open space but to avoid sharp long passageways. Chi should flow freely around and in and out of objects in the room.
Pleasant sounds stimulate the circulation of chi. Energy patterns in the environment improve significantly when music is playing. Lively music is the option for a home gym since it will energize the chi movement in the area and produce movement of chi in areas of the room where it may be stagnant.
These simple changes will restructure your home gym environment to support the health, vitality, energy and balance your fit lifestyle strives to create.
